Format One or More Exchange Files

Format one or more exchange transaction files into the canonical transaction table used throughout cryptoTax. This is a user-facing wrapper around format_detect() for the common workflow of passing a single exchange file, a list of raw exchange files, or a mixed list containing already formatted transaction tables.

Empty data frames and NULL list entries are skipped. Already formatted transaction tables are passed through unchanged.

Usage

format_exchanges(

  list.prices = NULL,
  USD2CAD.table = NULL,
  force = FALSE
)

Arguments

data

A data frame, or a (possibly nested) list of exchange data frames and/or already formatted transaction tables.

...

Additional exchange data frames or nested lists to format.

list.prices

A list.prices object from which to fetch coin prices. When supplied explicitly, it must contain at least currency, spot.rate2, and date2. For mixed exchange workflows, you can pass one shared list.prices object here and let the relevant exchange formatters consume it only when needed, instead of figuring out manually which exchange exports require external price matching.

USD2CAD.table

Optional explicit USD/CAD rate table to use for exchanges that convert USD-denominated values to CAD. When supplied explicitly, it must contain at least date and USD. As with list.prices, this can be supplied once for a mixed workflow and will only be used by the exchange formatters that actually need USD/CAD conversion.

force

Whether to force recreating list.prices even though it already exists (e.g., if you added new coins or new dates).

Value

A data frame of exchange transactions, formatted for further processing with the canonical columns date, currency, quantity, total.price, spot.rate, transaction, and exchange, plus optional descriptive columns such as fees, description, comment, revenue.type, and rate.source.
